About Our Music

Stage Junkies writing style is based in good old fashioned Rock n Roll but is not limited to power chords and fluff, we pride ourselves in not finding that one tune people like and re-creating it over and over. Hammer is well educated and schooled in technique and has a monster meter enjoying players like, John Bonham, Steve Smith and Scott Rockenfield. Spike grew up emulating and admiring players like Stanley Clark and Jaco Pastorious that were filled with ability and soul. Phil plays by ear and listened to bands like Led Zeppelin, the Who and SRV usually putting together rhythms with chords he can’t name but feel right. The writing comes from all sides of stage junkies with every member contributing words, grooves, stops, chops or opinions and the melting of these contributions are the heart of our sound. We hope you enjoy these words and music we have put together and hope you become a fan and check us out often and if in our area come and see us perform which is when we are really at our best. Peace and Rock n Roll.

Box Title
Phil Vires – Lead Guitar / Vocals

Box ImagePhil Vires has been in the Detroit music scene since he had to steal an amp from his brother and push it three blocks on a skateboard to play the intro to The Who’s “Road Runner” for hours on end (don’t think he learned the whole song) but was hooked for life. Making up songs was his instant passion that still grows to this day, along the ride playing with many great musicians and songwriters always refining and developing the art of song. Hooks, groves and lyrics with a little humor thrown in are the hallmark of Phils writing style. Currently Phil plays a Fender Telecaster, Stratocaster, and a Hagstrom twelve sting guitar with D’Addario strings into a Fender Blues Deluxe amp.

Jack “The Hammer” Alagna – Drums / Vocals

Box ImageInfluenced by his uncle Salvatore Alagna, Detroit based drummer Jack “The Hammer” Alagna grew up in the Motown, Funk, and Rock-n-Roll school, pure Detroit style! Jack later honed his skills in the Air Force and then in various house bands in the South Florida music scene. By playing with such passion he eventually earned the nick name by Spike “The Hammer” which has stuck with him ever since. As a professional drummer, Jack has shared the stage with such greats as Ted Nugent, Night Ranger, Molly Hatchet, and B.T.O. just to name a few. It’s the solid pocket; serve the song approach to drumming that he uses to create THE JUNKIES drum sound. Jack uses endorses Tama Drum equipment and Ziljian cymbals exclusively. Spike Vires – Bass / Lead Vocalist

Box ImageThis multi-influenced bass player sets down the fat grooves and “TOUGH FUNK” rhythms of the band. At an early age “SPIKER” knew he was born to be a STAGE JUNKIE with an outrageous stage presence and demanding style of bass, he also sings in a down home style accenting his southern heritage with a generous helping of soul. After playing the local scene with every style that came down the pipeline, Spike found an exceptional writing partner in his brother Phil. The music quickly took on a “GAME ON” mentality and the collaborating team of the Vires boys (THE BROTHERS V as we like to call it) never looked back. Spike plays a Tobias “Killer B” five string bass, Schecter Pro Diamond Series five string bass, Fender P fretless Bass through a SWR-PRO 400 Series head and Eden cabinets. Dean Markley Blue Steel medium light strings (The only strings that can take the abuse!)
